Downloading DVDs from Movielink.com

MY TWO CENTS

Movielink is the new movie download service backed by five of the biggest studios in America. Broadband users in the U.S. can now download a wide selection of new releases, Hollywood hits, foreign and classic films right to their computer, with no DVDs to return and no subscription.

Here's how it works... You install their movie download manager, and then download the movie you want (500-600 MB) which will take 15-30 minutes depending on your high-speed internet connection.  You have a choice of either Real Player or Windows Media format. (It may ask you to upgrade your Windows Media Player to a version that supports copy protection - Otherwise you won't be able to view the movies.)  After downloading, you have one month to start watching it. Once you've opened it for the first time, you can watch it as many times as you want within 24hrs, but after 24hrs you can't open it anymore.

PROS: Movielink is great for being about to fire it up and watch whichever movie when you want. No Pay-Per-View schedule, no trips to Blockbuster, no waiting for movies to be mailed. It's near instant. And, despite what I wrote above, you don't have to wait for it to finish downloading to start watching it.

CONS: If you are the type of person to rent a movie, watch it, and then let two of your friends/neighbors borrow it and have them return the movie for you (which you can do with most store rentals and most mail rental services), then  you'll be frustrated with Movielink because you can't do that.  But then again, probably the reason you like doing that is because you are too lazy to return the movie yourself - and with Movielink you don't have to.

Through the link below you can get a free download ("Ray: A Look Inside") and 80% off your first movie using coupon code FIRSTMOVIE99 during checkout.
